How Solo Female Travelers Can Avoid Getting Robbed

Solo female travelers are more of a target to thieves, pickpockets and scammers, but they can avoid getting robbed if they take precautions.

When traveling, it is often difficult to store valuables safely. This includes not only money and passport but also smartphones. As a woman traveling alone, it can happen very quickly that you are robbed. Unfortunately, you are an easier target than those traveling in a group. 

However, even if you are traveling alone there are some things you can do to stay safer.

Avoid Expensive Jewelry

Avoid wearing expensive flashy jewelry, especially gold jewelry.

If you want to go out in the evening and wear jewelry, it is usually better to wear cheap costume jewelry.

Leave Important Items in a Safe

It is also important that you leave your important documents at your hotel. If you stay in a hostel or hotel where there is no safe available, you can buy a Pacsmart cage or small safe before your trip which is specifically for travel. Here you can safely store your money, passport, and documents. 

Wear a Sturdy Shoulder Bag

On the street a small shoulder bag with a strong, sturdy strap is advisable. In this bag, you can store your phone and small amounts of money. However, try to leave your credit card and some cash in the hotel.

Stuff Your Bra

Splurge on a Taxi or Uber

Beware of the Boys

And of course, if you meet a man while traveling, be careful. Always meet in a public and busy place, and try to let someone know where you are and who you’re with.
