I asked 50 of my favorite travel bloggers to tell me the most romantic places they've ever been. Here are their answers, along with some incredibly stunning photos to inspire you.

 

Palais Blanc, Marrakech, Morocco

I absolutely love traveling around the world looking for the most romantic destinations for my readers so this is quite a challenge to choose one. But once you visit Palais Blanc in Marrakech, Morocco, you'll understand why it is at the top of my list.

Soft, flowing, white curtains, enormous, luxurious beds, a heated pool in the middle of a gorgeous courtyard, your choice of French, Italian or traditional Moroccan meals, and the most beautiful views of the Medina from the rooftop terrace are just a few reasons you will fall in love with this elegant, romantic riad.

In fact, you'll fall in love with the entire country.

Hiking through the High Atlas Mountains, camel trekking, luxury glamping in the Sahara, and dining on just-caught seafood in Agadir overlooking the ocean are just a few reasons people return to Morocco year after year.

And Palais Blanc tops the list of favorite places to stay for many travelers in this amazing, exotic, and incredibly romantic country.

Sicily, Italy

This is the largest of the Italian islands, and while it has a wide range of natural wonders (think beaches, and volcanic mountain scenery), cultural treasures, and culinary influences, one of the best things about Sicily is its authenticity.

Onsen Hot Pools, Queenstown, New Zealand

If you’re looking for something romantic to do with your honey in New Zealand, you can’t go wrong with visiting a thermal pool. But the most romantic thermal pools to soak in? They have to be the Onsen Hot Pools in Queenstown on NZ’s South Island.
These private hot tubs are set into a hillside, and a movable garage door reveals stunning views of the mountains and Shotover River below. You can make your visit even more romantic by booking around sunset when your experience will be “upgraded” with several twinkling Japanese lanterns.

 

My husband and I spent an hour here on our honeymoon in New Zealand, sipping champagne and enjoying those stunning views at dusk. Go for the Tandeki package, which includes drinks, snacks, and fluffy towels!

Namibia

I’m not a romantic kind of person. I’m all direct and practical. So’s my husband. We had a silly Elvis wedding in Las Vegas (because the marriage is important not the wedding) and spent our honeymoon drinking tequila and exploring archaeological sites in Mexico for goodness sake. But we did have an engagement holiday (‘don’t buy me a ring, that’s a waste of money, let’s go on holiday’ – see, practical and travel obsessed). We went to Namibia and it turned out to be the most (only?) romantic place I’ve ever been. We drove straight from the airport to Sesriem. We were staying in what we’d assumed was a pretty basic government campsite but turned out to be full on romantic glamping. We had a huge tent with a massive bathroom and a stunningly beautiful bed. All this in the middle of nowhere on the edge of one of the most beautiful national parks in the world. We even took a dawn hot air balloon ride over the sand dunes. I cried. Accidental romance can be a lovely thing.

Florence, Italy

My husband and I traveled there a few years ago with some of our best friends. We watched the sun go down from the Piazzale Michelangelo. It was a crystalline moment in my life when everything felt warm, light, and full of love.

Dalat City, Vietnam

In February of 2017, my boyfriend and I were backpacking throughout Vietnam. A fellow traveler told us we had to go to Dalat for Valentine’s Day as it was made for lovers and the most romantic city in Vietnam. I was skeptical at first – “How could an entire city be romantic?” but we decided to give it a try and incorporate some much-needed romance into our rough and tough backpacking lifestyle.

Upon arriving we were welcomed by cool weather which was a relief from the sweltering heat. We learned later that this was one of the reasons Dalat became romantic, as Vietnamese locals would vacation there because it was cool all year round.

Then we were awed by the adorable French colonial architecture, every building looked like it was out of a fairy tale. Not just the buildings gave the fairy tale vibe, but all the activities available were straight out of a princess story. We started our Valentine’s Day by floating on a lovely swan boat and then gliding on a pink tandem bicycle. After that, we were escorted on a horse and carriage that looked just like Cinderella’s!

When I thought the day couldn’t get any more special we explored Dalat’s famous flower gardens. Some of which are designed specifically for couples, one of these gardens is even called the “Valley of Love”. Finally, we ended our day with a romantic dinner by candlelight and a rose given to us by the restaurant. My mind was blown, every part of Dalat city was romantic! It was so nice and special to have this whole day and this whole town to celebrate with my loved one. It was the best Valentine’s Day we ever had!

Ragusa, Scicily

The most romantic destination I have visited was Ragusa, Sicily. What I love about Ragusa is that it still offers an old world Sicilian charm that can’t be touched. No matter where you go in the city, you will find beautiful views (including the best sunsets), authentic cafés with the best food, locals playing graceful songs on the accordion, peaceful churches, gorgeous parks and so much more. I like to consider it the “city of love” in Sicily.

Tangting, Nepal

There’s a small village in Nepal called Tangting that is by far the most romantic place I’ve ever been. It’s part of the popular Annapurna Circuit, but on a route that’s not often taken by tourists. The small town is full of charm. The pathways are made of hand laid stone and the homes have a countryside allure. I went during Tihar which is known as the “festival of lights” and candles illuminated each of the quaint homes. At night you can see every star in the galaxy. I happened to be there during a meteor shower which was beyond magical.

Cavoero, Portugal

My favorite “romantic” spot in the world is Carvoero, Portugal. The town is beachfront and nestled between two orange sandstone cliffs. While the town is cute it can be touristy at times so all you need to do is drive South a mile to find the most spectacular little swimming hole and cafe/restaurant. The only thing better than the stars was the sunrise hitting the mountains in the morning. You get to snuggle up in a wool blanket and drink chai tea with views that take your breath away.

Pico do Arieiro, Madeira, Portugal

I have been to Paris and Venice, and I have lived in Rome. But none of those places are as romantic as the Pico do Arieiro summit, the third highest peak of the Portuguese island called Madeira. It was there, somewhere between Pico do Arieiro and Pico Ruivo summits, where I finally understood that the boyfriend who stood next to me, who cared for me and supported me on the most difficult parts of the hike…that this spectacular man will one day become my husband. One year later, on that same mountain, already with wedding rings on our fingers, we had our outdoor wedding photoshoot in the clouds. The place will always be an important one for me and my husband and we return there anytime we can.

Nestled in Thailand’s northern mountains is the beautiful town of Pai. This tiny backpacker town is filled with romantic areas to have a picnic, like Mae Yen Waterfall. There are also many spots to watch a stunning sunset – the view from Pai Canyon is amazing!

Girona, Spain

Girona in Spain is the most romantic city I’ve ever been to. The medieval old town is just gorgeous – perfect for lovers to stroll through, hand in hand along narrow lanes, down winding staircases and through hidden squares. When you get bored of walking, you can find a cozy bar or restaurant and grab a glass of the local wine. Follow it up with a delicious meal: Girona takes it’s food seriously. The city’s most famous restaurant is El Celler de Can Roca. It’s got three Michelin stars and Restaurant Magazine says it’s the third best restaurant in the world – but even if you can’t get a table there, there are plenty of others to choose from. We loved Llevataps, in the heart of the old town, a slick restaurant feel with a modern yet casual ambiance and food to die for!

Paris, France

Paris is known as the ‘city of love’ and indeed, it is hard to beat as a romantic destination. First and foremost, Paris is stunning: whether you enjoy the architecture of the Grand Boulevards or prefer the quiet charm of the Shakespeare & Co. bookstore and the left bank, Paris delivers and offers couples some of the most beautiful backdrops to an intimate stroll.

As well as beautiful landscapes, the city has lovely, cozy hotels and many restaurants for candlelit dinners that embody the most traditional type of French romanticism. For the best couple experience, make sure you include in your Paris itinerary a stop in Montmartre and plan an evening drink on the terrace above Printemps before taking an obligatory stroll along the Seine.

Las Vegas, Nevada

The most romantic place in the world that I’ve ever been to is Las Vegas. Where else can you get married in a chapel in the morning then visit every romantic place in the world during the afternoon?  Venice, Paris, New York, Egypt, the works, and all within a couple of miles. And then, of course, you can head out into the mountains and experience the peace and tranquility of the natural world. Certainly, a must do place at least once in a lifetime.

Calling Cappadocia in Turkey a romantic place is both an understatement and an overstatement. Cappadocia gets its romantic appeal from the colorful pictures of the many balloon rides over the out-of-this-world landscape. On the other hand, the climate is rather harsh, and people living in the original cave housing had pretty basic accommodation. Of course, nowadays, cave hotels are incredibly comfortable and sometimes even flat-out luxurious; with excellent views, heated infinity pools, and romantically decorated cave rooms. There is a certain coziness to it all. Cappadocia is a place of choice for wedding pictures, romantic dinners, bucket-list experiences, and proposals. In short, despite its rather strange appearance, it lives and breathes romance. And the fun part is to let it all happen.

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

There is a cable car in Rio that goes from the mainland to Sugarloaf Mountain. The one-way trip takes about 15 minutes. The ride offers breathtaking views of Rio’s magnificent beaches if you go by day.  If you take the cable car at night, you feel like you are floating in the black, starlit sky, drifting slowly over the sparkling lights of Rio’s coastline.  The cable car has a speaker over which they play soft, sexy samba music. The entire experience is achingly romantic.

Dubrovnik, Croatia

Dubrovnik has always been one of my favorite places. Not only it attracts me so much because of its narrow and charming streets but also because of the Mediterranean atmosphere, extraordinary ocean views, and exquisite food. I and my wife decided to visit Dubrovnik this year in the month of June and
our experience was fantastic. I recommend everyone having a dinner in one of the best restaurants in the Old Town, with candle lights and roses, this can be one of the best romantic experiences you can ever have. In addition, Dubrovnik and its beaches are simply so wonderful, pure crystal water and the smell from the ocean makes everything so idyllic.

We highly rate dinner at The Beach Plum Restaurant in Menemsha, Martha’s Vineyard USA as a superb romantic experience both for the food and the ambiance. Set high above on a cliff, the restaurant has got fabulous views over little Menemsha harbor and beach below. The sunsets at Menemsha are renowned for their fabulous colors. Unlike at the beach though, viewing the sunset from the Beach Plum is an uncrowded and elegant experience (especially with a glass of wine in hand).  The Obamas have been to The Beach Plum Restaurant for date nights when they spend their summer vacations on Martha’s Vineyard. In addition to the famous sunsets, the food is excellent. Bring your own wine – Menemsha is a dry town.

Venice, Italy

Some cities seem designed for romantic love and Venice is without a doubt one of them. Venice rises from the waters of a lagoon in the North East of Italy and is a place like no other. The city dates back to Medieval times and is a maze of small alleyways and crumbling buildings reflecting their pastel-colored facades into the city’s many canals.
Enjoying Venice as a couple is easy. Pick accommodation in a quiet area and allow yourself to get lost in the lesser touristy parts of town. Take a ferry to the islands and catch the sunset of the lagoon: then, finish your day in one of the city’s bacari and indulge in the famous Venetian food while sipping on a glass of the local Valpolicella.

One of the most romantic places we have visited has to be Prague. From the moment you step foot in the city, it genuinely feels like you are walking around in a fairy tale. One of the most romantic moments for us though had to be watching the sunrise at the Charles Bridge. For starters, there are nowhere near as many people here as there are during the day. So along with your beloved and only a handful of people you sit and wait. Eventually, with the Prague Castle in the background, the sky comes alive, changing from black to an array of pinks until finally settling on a shade of blue for the day. It is an incredible and romantic moment we will always remember.

The Gothic Quarter of Barcelona could be described as romantic at any time of the day, but there is something especially magical about it at night.  As my husband, Jason, and I strolled these narrow cobblestone streets at night we heard laughter coming from a tapas bar and flamenco music from a tablao.  Overhead were strings of lights providing just enough illumination to walk safely. We were never sure what we’d see as we turned a corner; maybe a beautiful cathedral, an outdoor market, or an ancient Roman wall.  During the day the shops are bustling but at night its the wine bars and restaurants that are busy with happy patrons, both local and visiting. Overall the atmosphere is lively and relaxed, making for a truly romantic evening.

Vista Verde Ranch is an all-inclusive luxury cabin we loved as a romantic getaway. We loved the setting, activities and the worry-free environment.  The cabins are genuine log cabins, and when you step inside they are lovely.  Cabins have their own hot tub which is a perfect place to warm up in after a day out in the cold. When they say all-inclusive, they are not kidding.  Cooking classes, horseback riding, and all activities and food are included in the price. This made things so much more relaxed and allowed us to focus on having fun and enjoying our time together.

The museum without walls or Gyeongju is the ancient capital of the Silla Dynasty in Korea. A city filled with parks, historic sites, and beautiful temples. A perfect place to go for young couples who are looking for a romantic getaway in South Korea. In downtown Gyeongju, you’ll find everything within walking distance. The most romantic times to visit is during the cherry blossom season in April or the autumn foliage towards the end of October. The best things to do in Gyeongju are visiting the stunning Tumuli Park, Cheomseongdae Observatory and its surrounding park, Anpji Pond and Bulguksa Temple.

The marine biodiversity in the area is so special that Raja Ampat has been named as one of the best diving places in the world. And if you are not a diver, you can easily spend some great moments snorkeling among colorful fish, reef sharks, huge turtles, and perfect coral. The best moment of the day in Raja Ampat, irrespective of the island you base yourself is the sunset. When the sky turns pink, and the waves calm down. So, don’t wait too long and book a flight to one of the most romantic places in the world.

You can easily spend hours wandering the various pathways and getting lost amongst the stunning green rice paddies. It’s a wonderful place to connect with each other while enjoying some incredible scenery. To top it off there are a number of restaurants overlooking the rice terraces so you can grab a romantic meal with a view too!

Bora Bora has to be the world’s most romantic destination. About 90% of the people who visit are on their honeymoon so love is definitely in the air. The overwater bungalows are great but the views even more fabulous, especially the ones on the motu (reef) which have views over the stunning Mount Otemanu, the most recognizable landmark on the island. Legend has it that throwing a coin in the fountain ensures your return to Rome.  But for those with romance on the brain, look for the smaller fountain the left of the Trevi Fountain.  It’s called the fountain of lovers and according to legend guarantees you and your partner, eternal love. More places to visit here.

Romantic castles full of history and lovely gardens (like Hohensalzburg Fortress or Mirabell Garden) – strolling this area, passing beautiful pastel colored buildings is bucket list material for lovebirds.To end the day, sit down at the Salzach River and watch the sunset or hike up Kapuzinerberg – you will find out that this little city has enough to offer for a romantic getaway. Langkawi is a beautiful island off the coast of Malaysia and it can be incredibly romantic thanks to the fact that there are tons of beaches and you can escape the crowds easily. Our most romantic spot is at the Andaman Resort. It has a private beach and is surrounded by jungle and it’s really easy to feel like you have the spot to yourself. You can eat right by the beach and there’s also the option of having a private pool right by the sand.

My pick for one of the most romantic hot spots is the Vizcaya Museum and Gardens in the Coconut Grove neighborhood of Miami, Florida!  Set on Biscayne Bay on the Atlantic, Vizcaya is nationally known as a top spot for engagement and wedding photography.  Plus, the massive tent being set up in the photo proves how adeptly the staff can handle even the poshest of events! Adam and I are total beach lovers and we’ve been to some amazing places on our 5+ year round the world trip but no place compares to the Maldives. Staying in overwater bungalows surrounded by gorgeous turquoise waters and having a private sandbar to yourself all day is amazing. If you’re looking for a romantic getaway or a honeymoon you won’t be disappointed. Maldives packages are more affordable than you think. There are affordable resorts (under $100 night) as well as the crazy expensive ones, too ($30,000+ a night).

When you think of romantic moments, having an Italian meal together in a quiet Italian restaurant over a glass of wine, with soft music playing in the background, fits the bill perfectly. We found this in the most unlikely of places. Situated just off the street of Rue Clemenceau in Beirut, Lebanon, “La Casa di Pasta” is a small intimate Italian restaurant. The owner greets you with a smile, and with his serving towel over his forearm sits you down. The candles are lit on your table and with the dim lighting create the perfect ambiance for a romantic meal. The quality of the food and the fact that you may be the only two people in there add to the atmosphere. It truly is a romantic getaway amid the bustle of modern Beirut.

Sofia, Bulgaria

Maybe I’m a little odd, but I think Sofia, Bulgaria is one of the most beautiful and romantic cities on earth. What can I say – I like a little post-communist grit with my grandeur. To me, there’s nothing more romantic than strolling hand in hand on Vitoshka Boulevard with all the other couples, with the beautiful Mt. Vitosha in the background capped with snow.

I love the way the yellow vintage trams look as they pass by Cyrillic street signs and Orthodox Churches and the flower vendors selling bouquets on every other street corner. I love enjoying a meal with my boyfriend in one of Sofia’s best restaurants and then heading to Sense Rooftop Bar later in the evening to see Sofia’s most beautiful building, the gorgeous Alexander Nevsky Cathedral, all lit up from above. It’s an underrated but undeniably romantic city!

Seville, Spain

I was SO EXCITED to visit Spain for the tapas, vibes, culture, and architecture, but never did I expect to be blown away by the romanticism of one city, in particular, Seville. If I could describe Seville in one word, it would be “ambiance.” From the winding streets of the Barrio Santa Cruz to the moods set by the Real Alcazar and Cathedral, I felt as if I was in a fairy tale.

There are many romantic things you can do here. I recommend visiting the Real Alcazar, Plaza De Espana, Maria Luisa Park, taking a carriage ride through the city and seeing a Flamenco show! You will fall in love with the most romantic city in Spain and even all of Europe just as I did. More things to do in Seville here. 

Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden, Tokyo, Japan

One of most romantic places I have been to is Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden in Tokyo, Japan. Shinjuku Gyoen is one of the most beautiful parks in Tokyo.  It is a peaceful, quiet and relaxing oasis in the middle of the hectic city and a great place for a romantic picnic or stroll.  The park has three different types of gardens (Japanese traditional, English landscape and French formal) and also has a greenhouse, teahouse, ponds and wooden bridges.

While Shinjuku Gyoen is a romantic place year round, the best time to visit is in the spring when its many cherry trees reach full bloom.  Even though it is one of the most popular places in Tokyo to enjoy the cherry blossoms, it never feels crowded. The gardens are large so you can easily spend at a few hours here on a date with your love.

Santorini, Greece

Nature has its own fine ways of sprinkling fairy dust and cupid arrows in Greece. I find Santorini aphrodisiac, the pure white and brilliant blue settlement surrounded by mystical looking caldera makes me want to imagine romance in the background & forefront. If I had paint and a brush, I would be here for days, trying to paint my soul with the heart of my beloved, dancing in the azure blue waters and getting lost and finding each other in the narrow alleys! An absolutely lovely place for romance!

The views of this historic city are incredible. The setting sun turns the Arno river shades of yellow and orange slowing fading to violet and pink.   In the foreground, you gaze upon the historic Ponte Vecchio bridge.  Looking a bit farther into the city you will see the towering Uffizi Museum.  And as the lights of the city start to twinkle, the enormous Cattedrale di Santa Maria del Fiore takes center stage. It is a bit of a climb to Piazzale Michelangelo but well worth the effort.  Plan on arriving at least 1 hour before the sunset begins so you can take in the city’s ever changing scene as the light slowly fades.

The Seychelles

Even though I’m a solo traveler, I have to say that The Seychelles is the most romantic destination I’ve visited to date. From the crystal clear water and white sand beaches, to the culture, and even its entertainment, you feel like you’re in a tiny paradise made for couples. One of my favorite places there was Anse Source d’Argent beach, on the island of La Digue. This beach, covered in giant granite boulders makes for such a picturesque place to spend a relaxing time. And even when the beach can be full, you can find some seclusion by getting a hidden spot in between boulders. And, don’t be surprised by the number of weddings you’ll see at the beach, restaurants, and other sites. Chances are you’ll crash one or two.

Taj Mahal, India

The world travels to the town of Agra to admire the Taj Mahal, a symbol of love, built by the Mughal emperor Shah Jahan for his wife Mumtaz Mahal in the year 1632. The white marble structure with an enormous dome reflects the sun and dons a pretty pinkish shade early in the morning. It shines like a pearl on a moonlit night. A cool night breeze, the glistening Taj Mahal and soft Indian folk music can possible kindle romance in even those who thought their heart was far away from the 'mushy' feeling. What added to the romance was the stay in the luxurious ITC hotel, where we were treated like royalty. The hotel itself had a stunning lobby with white marble, a spa fit for a queen and food fit to please even the most finicky taste buds!
The Taj Mahal can be easily reached from Delhi road. The journey takes about 2 hours and is a pleasant drive on great road with fields on both sides. Self drive cars can booked on one can use the public transport to get to Agra.

Nerja, Spain

"My romantic destination of choice would be Nerja, Spain. For starters, it isn't touristy, I find it a struggle to truly embrace my romantic side when a thousand other people around me are doing the same thing, and trying to take a selfie to prove it.
For starters, Nerja has weather on its side, as it's got a beautiful climate. There are no shortage of good restaurants (and great wine), and when the weather gets too hot, you can explore beaches galore! It's a fun spot to be with your significant other and take in a lovely breeze."

Quebec City

Flying to Quebec City. Quebec City is charming, has old world European architecture, cafes offering an abundance of international food and who could resist staying at the Château Frontenac, the castle overlooking St.Lawrence River.

Watkins Glen State Park, NY

Watkins Glen State Park in Watkins Glen, New York is one of the romantic places I’ve visited. With 19 waterfalls in just over a mile and a half, every turn around a corner in this gorge reveals yet another beautiful fall. Because of the gorge’s path, you’ll even end up behind one of the falls. Cap off the visit by sailing on the True Love Schooner on Lake Seneca.
 

Ait Faska, Morocco

      I know I write about romantic travel, but I travel as a solo traveler 99% of the time! The only time it ever hurt was one time when I was standing under the Eiffel Tower snapping selfies, and suddenly I turned around and looked at all of the people around me and realized, wow, I’m in PARIS and I’m completely alone- argh.

    This is a great post. Some places I’m not surprised made the the list and some I was pleasantly surprised to see on the list. I’ve been to a few of these places and it really is hard to pick which would be the ultimate place.

    It surprised me to see Tangting made it into the list. I am happy about it. Many people don’t know about the Tangting village on the Annapurna Circuit. When thinking of romantic places in Nepal, Ghandruk, Namche, Bandipur, Nagarkot, Pokhara, Chitwan, etc., would usually top the list.
